Maras, Moray, and the Salt Mines - Overnight at Skylodge
We begin the day with pickup from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 8:00 a.m. and head to Moray and the salt mines.
Moray is a remarkable site because of its circular terraces, which were used during Inca times as a center for agricultural experimentation, taking advantage of temperature changes between levels. It is located in a stunning setting, with spectacular views and surrounded by the imposing Andes Mountains, which create a unique and majestic natural landscape.
We then continue to the impressive Maras Salt Mines, which consist of thousands of salt ponds carved into a mountainside, where salt has been extracted by hand since pre-Inca times. A natural salt-rich spring fills these ponds, and the intense Andean sun evaporates the water, leaving salt crystals that local people harvest by hand.
Production remains in the hands of local community families, who work and pass this ancestral knowledge from parents to children.
Finally, we head to the Pachar area, arriving at around 3:30 p.m., where the guide explains the rules and safety procedures before the ascent begins.
The Skylodge Adventure Suites is one of the most unique accommodations in the world. You will sleep in transparent glass capsules attached to a cliff, approximately 400 m (1,300 feet) above the Sacred Valley of the Incas, enjoying spectacular views of the valley and the starry sky.
